I have had an enquiry from someone interested in obtaining more detail
regarding the murder of progenitor Charles Marais, and the subsequent
court case.
He has read the interesting extract from Simon vd Stel's diary on the
stamvader web page, and asks the following questions:

"Am I right in understanding that the trial was heard at the Castle of
Good Hope, and that the 'offending Hottentot' was
sentenced to death?
Were there any criticisms of this event and this sentence at the time,
or by subsequent historians?"

Can anyone confirm the info in the first question, and shed more light
on the 2nd for us, please? Any additional info will be most welcome.

Regards,
Martina Louw.
