Philomena Scahs married Jacob A. Strasser in Jefferson Co. MO in 1851.
The census for 1856 Davenport IA states
she was born in Missouri. I recall very
vaguely a census listing for Frederick
Sachs with no wife but several children
including Philomena. I can find no other
mention of her origins or parents. Have
written Missouri, Scott Co. IA library.
I seem to remember 1840 census.
She and Jacob had 12 children, four of whom survived to adulthood.
Appolonia
born 1852 MO; Laura born 1855 IA; Jennie born 1865 IA; Jacob born 1867
IA; Francis Xavier born 1869. He was named for Jacob's father
Xavier who died January 1869 Evansville IN. The others died from
diphtheria and
all are buried in Oakdale, Davenport IA.
I cannot find Philomena's burial site but
her date of death is 6FEB1873 from typhoid fever. She and Jacob had
many
friends and were given a specially notable
funeral service at home by their friends
in the musical world. He led the Strasser Orchestra and Strasser Union
Band. He
also introduced the German Theater to
Davenport. He was a bookeeper in the German Savings Bank.
Is Philomena a name you connect with?
