Hello Sackett family, I am new to the group but feel compelled this night to
write my first note to you all. I know what I am going to say is old info
for a lot of you but I feel I have a new twist on it. My father died a week
ago of lung cancer. I have been madly compiling genealogy info for his sake
for the past year, and only about 6 weeks ago discovered the Sackett
connection. This excited me very much because my dad has collected every
Louis L'Amour book there is and about 40 of them are about a fictionalized
Sackett family. I could't wait to tell him that he too was a Sackett. When
I went down to Arizona for his memorial I looked into his library and found
the Sackett stories and borrowed two. The first, Sacketts Land, has in its
preface, the details of how L'Amour decided to use the name Sackett and to
use the very location the real Sacketts came from to begin his saga. I
wrote to Daniel Sackett the other nite and he urged me to share my dad's
connection thru literature to the Sackett family long before he ever knew
there was a real connection. Here we are on Thankgiving nite, giving thanks
for family connections. Hope you all had a good holiday.
By the way my connection is thru Aner Sackett who married Preston Pogue and
lived in Adams Co. Indiana. Her father was Cyrus Sackett of Greene Co. OH.
