Notes:
Having now found an ancient dictionary I can figure out some of the old
words above.
MANTE, MANTEE: mantle, loose sleeveless cloak.
DRUGETT: drugget, coarse woven fabric.
TIPPET: cape or muffler of fur.
PILION: pillion, woman's light saddle.
TOW: coarse and broken part of flax or hemp prepared for spinning; loose
bunch of rayon etc. strands.
SHOAT: young (esp. weaning) pig.
Can anyone guess at "a say apron"?
The words "error" in the margin above are exactly as they appear in the
probate record. It looks as though the money values have been overwritten,
perhaps after finding a mistake.
Intriguing to find in an inventory of estate thirty shillings' worth of
"Dung in ye yerd". My old Dad always said not to throw anything away; you
never know what it might be worth. :-)
