Samuel, s/o James William Major & Mary Sackett, was born 10/20/1848 St.
Mary's Twp., Adams Co., IN. He moved to Green Co., WI w/ his brother-in-law
Sylvester Scoles (married to sister Nancy Major) & is found there on the
1870 census. Just found him living in Wabash Twp., Adams Co., IN in 1900,
Maint Street, family 147 dwelling 1851, page 7B.

It appears Samuel really traveled. Son James who was age1 on the 1870 Wi
census is not listed, so he's deceased . Samuel's info states he's been
marrried 31 years w/ 5 children only 3 living. those children are listed as
: Cyrus E. born 9/1872 Kansas, Marmy M. (that's what it looks like) born
3/1876 IN, Samuel F. born 3/1886 & grandaughter Mercil (again that's what it
looks like) 1895 IN, aprents born IN. Can't read the month.

With this new information re: living in Kansas & knowing that no record of
Nancy Major Scoles death has been found in WI, I wonder if Sylvester & Nancy
Scoles moved to KS for a short period of time? Nancy & Sylvester died of TB
just months apart in 1877. Sylvester died in Adams Co., IN just days after
arriving from (supposedly) WI. Nancy died along the way or (again supposedly
in WI). Something more for me to ponder...
