Patty Yes i will be there on the 20th will have to leave on the morning
of the 21th though. Will there the 14th through the 20th, have to be
in Florida on business on the 25th and it is a 2 day drive for me from
here in Georgia. There are several other Sacketts that have shown an
interest in attending the Program.
Patriot day is a tribute those who have served our country in past
wars. Every year some of the original families like the Sacketts,
Deweys, etc. are reconized as founders of the town of Westfield. I was
the representative two years ago and last year was my Father. This year
they do not have anybody to represent the Sackett Family that has not
already been reconized. The program lasts about an hour to hour &
1/2. I will make arrangements for the Mechanic St. Cemetery to be open
for any one that cares to see some of the old Sacketts Grave Stones
there. Mechanic St. Cemetery was just put on the State Register and
they are in the process of getting it put on the National Register.
That is where Abigail Hannum Sackett is buried d.1690. She is the first
wife of John Sackett, Son of Simon Sackett. There is the old Sackett
Tavern, now a private home that we might be able to impose on the owners
to go through. They let me tour it a couple years ago and it is really
something to see. It was built in 1776.
