Thank you.
As a beginner, I was getting a little discouraged.
I'm in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia & it is 92 with humidity of 85%.
I'm glad I live in a log cabin in a "holler". It's a little cooler.
No air conditioning.
Take care,
Susan Roberts

Subject: [SACKETT-L] Valid information
Hi All,
Don't jump to discount secondary sources of information that don't quite agree with primary sources of information. I have stacks of photo-copies of primary information that was wrong. I have photos of tombstones stating a person is buried there and know for a fact that the person is buried 3000 miles due west as I attended the funeral.
I have Official Discharges from the army, original copies that have the wrong middle initial for the person discharged. I have the wrong first name on a death certificate because my father grew up with a step-grandfather and didn't know his real grandfathers name was William not John. I could go on and on but why bother. All sources need to be given equal value or at least equal attention and the data so noted that there is a controversy involved. Usually the information begins to stack up supporting one view or the other, until then the opinions stated are theory not fact and in some cases the opinions are mere hypothesis.
My Aaron Sackett is a case in point as is my Jonah Estabrook. I have seen copies of the Massachusetts Town Records in regard to Jonah that tell me he died twice once in 1770 and again in 1818. Since he is my 4G-grandfather and fathered four children that I know of, all in the time period between 1790 and 1805 I believe that the 1770 date is incorrect. Wish I had as good documentation for Aaron Sackett.
Triple digit heat out here in the west, I expect it has gotten to me,
