Yup. Those were southern-upstate NY. But my MA, CT, Marylanders and
Pennsylvanians and oh-so-English Vermont yankees and all the rest did it. It's
challenging to keep in mind which Amos or Ezra is which. And my husband's
southerners, headed down southern routes after the revolution for bounty lands,
all did that too. I think it was part of a very long term generalized european culture.
