Dear All,
It's been awful quiet of late! I often get asked 'How rare is the Sackett
name?', and thought somebody might be interested in this piece of trivia:-
Number of Sacketts in the UK at 9 Sep 2002 = 497 out of 54,412,638.
This is 0.0009% of the population, i.e. just under one-thousandth of one per
cent are Sacketts.
Out of 269,353 recorded surnames, Sackett ranks at 11,423.
[Source: UK Govt statistics]
I don't have the figure to hand but think the UK pop. is nearer 60m than
54m - wouldn't be surprised if the Govt. have mislaid a few millions! But
the number of Sacketts will be about right - I'm working on the 1901 Census
which has at long last been made available, and have about 400 Sacketts at
that date.
Any similar stats for USA?
Regards,
Chris
