Hi Sackett Searchers:
Fred Sackett sent me the information for two headstone pictures to be included on the Sackett Headstones website. In the process of trying to determine which family they might have belonged to I did some research into the units they served in.

85th New York Veteran Volunteers: The 85th New York Volunteers organized at Elmira, New York on November 9, 1861. The regiment was made up of about 900 men from the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Seneca and Ontario.

Summer 1863; Company I of the 85th is sent on detached duty at Roanoke Island

Jan. 1864; Many men of the 85th re-enlist as Veterans
Apr 17-20, 1864; Battle at Plymouth, NC; 9 companies of the 85th are taken prisoner.
Apr 21-30, 1864 Prisoners begin their march through Goldsborough, Wilimington, Charleston, Macon and Andersonville where the officers and enlisted men are separated.
