Hello Sackett Searchers,

Following a recent contact with Patti Hobbs, relating to connections between
the Sackett and Lee families in Huntingdon Co., PA, I have been revisiting
some of the problems with the descendants of W #22-Simon and Mary McCaw
Sackett.

Weygant states:
"His Irish wife proved to be a true helpmate and model mother. Their family
life at Hopewell was all that could be desired, and when when he [Simon]
died there in 1718, he left his wife and three children in comfortable
circumstances." (p. 30)

Weygant shows three children for Simon and Mary:
82. Thomas Sackett, M. Sarah Haywood.
83. _____ Sackett, a daughter.
84. _____ Sackett, a daughter.

However, Lynn Tinsley [WorldConnect db: tinzhaven] has the following in her
notes for W #22-Simon Sackett:

Will dated January 1717 at Hopewell, New Jersey proved March 17, 1717
names wife Mary, son Joseph, "child my wife now goeth withal" if it be a son
to share evenly with Joseph, if a daughter, Joseph to pay her £50 when 21.
If either die before coming of age, the survivor to possess all that the
other is to get, if both die before coming of age, "my brothers and sisters"
to have all, equally divided except that the "children of my sister
Elizabeth" shall have between them one portion.

This indicates that, unless Mary had twins after Simon's death, that there
were only two children who lived beyond Simon's death in 1717. The only son
named is Joseph who lived until 1798 when he died in Wrightstown, Bucks Co.,
PA.

This leaves us with the question as to whether or not Weygant's #82-Thomas
Sackett was Mary's unborn child at the time of Simon's death.

Another question is raised concerning Weygant's #82-Thomas Sackett and his
connection to the Sacketts of Huntingdon Co., PA. Weygant gives no birth
year for him but we know from the will of his presumed father that it was
probably during the year 1717.

Researchers of this Sackett line have indicated that Thomas and his sons
served in the Rev. War from Franklin Co., PA and received bounty land in the
area for their service. However, W #82-Thomas Sackett would have been 59
years old at the beginning of the Rev. War. But he could have been
considered as having served although he didn't take up arms, if he rendered
material support to the war.

Patti Hobbs supplied the following information which relates to a Thomas
Sacket in Huntingdon Co., PA which occurred 114 years after the probable
birth year of W #82-Thomas Sackett:
