Remember that many years ago many people could not read/write and things
were written for them by other people. Names were most likely written
by how they sounded to the person doing the writing and I have found the
same name spelled differently in the same document. Probably over the
years people have also copied them incorrectly, sometimes by just not
caring about accuracy and probably sometimes by not really being able to
read the old writings and transcribing incorrectly.
