Mary probably went to Lynn because that is where her parents, William and
Sarah Bassett lived.

My Salem witch ancestor Mary Basset DeRich was convicted and jailed but not
executed. Her son John DeRich was a witness but not one of his mother's
accusers. Mary's husband Michael DeRich died while she was imprisoned. She
chose not to return to Salem after her release and applied to the town of
Lynn for relief because she had lost her "bed and cooking pot." Many Salem
residents were victims on all sides of this sad episode.
