Hello Everyone,

I am new to this list. I have just recently begun a search for my husband's ancestors. I don't have much to go on, but if I am lucky, one of you fellow researchers will spot one of these folks and think, "Hey, I know that name!" If that happens, please speak up. I can use all the help I can get.

I first spotted this family in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Kinderhook, Columbia County, New York

John V. Salmon, age 40. This places his birth about 1810 New York.
Catherine, age 37, wife
Robert, age 15, son
Martha, age 11, daughter
Arthur, age 10, son
Martin, age 9, son (name was misunderstood perhaps, because it should be MILTON Salmon)
Curtis, age 1, son (name should read CORTEZ Salmon)

The John Salmons remained in Kinderhook up through the 1870 census. By 1880, they had migrated out to South Dakota.
Joining them in the census for South Dakota was John's mother-in-law, Catherine VAN DEUSEN, age 91. She, too, was born in New York.
Two granddaughters resided in the Salmon household: Katie Van Deusen STEELE, age 17 and her sister, Martha Steele, age 14. Both girls were natives of New York.

After searching a database of New York births @ Ancestry.com, I found a son named, John VOSMEYER born to Reuben Salmon and Elizabeth BOGARDUS of Kinderhook, in 1806. The "V" in John Salmon's name might be Vosmeyer. Reuben and Elizabeth may be John's parents.

Would appreciate any help regarding these folks.

Thank you!
