I need some help!! I bought a new computer in December and decided to
use the Windows95's Word97 webpublishing program that came installed
with it, in place of my old webpublishing program which is very
limited.

I can create some very nice looking files with it.

HOWEVER, when I try to upload my files onto the GeoCities' site, the
computer CHANGES the names of my files. For instance, the "index" (or
main) file becomes "MYDOCU~/INDEX~1.htm". GeoCities' then flashes me a
message that such a file name is not recognized--that a file with an
"~"
is not valid.

Word97 CHANGES the name and puts this "~" and a "1" into EVERY file
that
I create. If I manually try to enter the correct file name of "index",
I
get the message that this file "does not exist".

That's only the small part of the problem. This darn Word97 CHANGES my
files almost every time I open them up. Headlines are changed from
"center" to "left"; paragraphs are combined into one.

Sentences are closed together and spellings actually changed by this.
It
doesn't do any good to change or correct these.

I have deleted whole files and completely redid then, over and over. I
have made corrections and then saved the page as many as 20 times--all
to no avail.

Each time I open up a different page, it becomes corrupted. Where I have
a section of hyperlinks, the program corrupts them, adding a paragrahp
with a "-" hyphen that is itself a hyperlink; sometimes five or six of
these paragraphs with these hyphens--all that are a hyperlink.

I also tried to use the tables in Word97, so I could write obituaries
that look like they do in a newspaper. I created two columns. HOWEVER,
no matter how many times I create a different page, change and save it
over and over, ALL the obits appear in just ONE of the columns.

I have now wasted TWO WHOLE MONTHS trying to correct all these
problems.
And after all this work--several hundred hours--I still cannot get the
program to function correctly not upload any of the files.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? and how to fix this problem? I
wanted to create a better-looking site for our Sanders Family
Association page but so far haven't succeeded at anything but wasting a
lot of effort.
