Found this info about Saunders/Saunders in WWI
Mostly from the 1st Division, 16th Infantry.

Killed in Action
Leo J. Sanders Pvt 1/c,Co K
Sylvester Sanders Pvt 1/c, Co K.
Both killed 7/19/18. 16th Infantry, 3rd Battalion.

Officers of the 16th Infantry.
L.C. Sanders 1st Lt. Co R,

In the Big Book "History of the First Division" it lists as killed in action
Pvt. John E. Sanders, 26th infantry, Co I.
