I recently found a very interesting old book. I have not had the opurtunity
to read through the entire book, but I ran across some interesting
information.
The book is "Old Virginia Homes Along the James"
written by Emmie Ferguson Farrar
copyright 1957 and published by Bonanza Books of New York.

In the chapter about Charles City and Prince George County Virginia I found
this:

Mr. N. E. A. Saunders bought a home named Upper Shirley from the Carter
family about 1870. He gave the home to his son, Herbert Saunders, upon his
marriage to a popular local girl named Rosalie Bell.
There is a little more information. There are photos included of the house
as it was restored in the 1950s.

If any one in interested in this info just let me know. I do not know how
correct the information is. I found the book interesting for the type of off
the wall information it gives.
There are many familys listed in the book with some info about each. If
anyone has any requests to search for other names let me know. There is not
an index to the book. I will attempt to look through the book at a later
date and post all sirnames, etc.
