Mike,

I have Sanders ancestors in Anson County, NC 1810-about 1856. In
researching them, I have seen both Abijah and Kirby in the census records
during that period.
Kirby Sanders - 1820, page 51, Anson Co., NC (the only time this name
appears in Anson Co., NC Census)

Abijah Saunders - 1840, page 80, Anson Co., NC Census

Abijah Sanders - 1850, page 203a, Anson Co., NC Census (this is a different
one than the one in 1840) This one is also in 1860 Anson Co. Census, page
451.

There might be a connection to yours.

My ancestor was Isaac Axum Sanders who was born in Anson Co., NC, 1808 &
moved to Kemper Co., MS about 1856. I still haven't figured out how all the
Anson County Sanders were related though.
