GALE,
I belive you are correct on all accounts. I did think the Will
mentioned Lynus as a child, but I don't have a copy of the original. This
really is not my line. I just copied it years ago because it was on
Sanders in Chester county. But, I don't see a connection yet to my
Sanders of Edgefield county. Not to say there isn't one somewhere :~).
This is all I have and know on this family though. I wish you all
good luck with the rest.
Kathy.

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for your post, I just want to add some comments, etc....let me say
up front that most if not all of my information is from ED SAUNDERS' WEBSITE

http://home.att.net/~eesaunders/tchtml

1st, Phillip(will 1722) was married to an Ursula before Elizabeth. There
are some records that mention her by name. I think she is the mother of
most of the children. In reading the will that is posted on the internet,
it "sounds" to me like the 2nd wife Elizabeth came into the marriage with
some children. They mention daughter's Sarah and Elizabeth.

It is the way in which these two girls are mentioned that lead me to
believe this. It says....(after mentioning John, Phillip, William and
James, wife Elizabeth, daughter Mary and Ursula and the individual items
being left to them), "It is my will that the rest of my Estate of any kind
what ever be equally divided between my wife Elizabeth Sanders and her
children, and it is my will that my children do remain & stay with the
mother during the time that she shall remain a widow. And whereas I have
hereby given the remaining part of my estate to be equally divided between
my wife & her children. It is provided that they pay over & above to my
youngest daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Sanders five hundred pounds of
tobacco apiece at the age of eighteen years or the day of marriage......

It could be that William (will 1726) and Elizabeth had daughter's Sarah
and Elizabeth. Just thought someone else might like to see what the will
said.

When Phillip died in 1722, he mentions his children William and Ursula
(Taylor) Sanders/Saunders. He mentioned, as you've said, his grandchildren:
John Sanders (son of William Sanders) Phillip Sanders, and Mary Sanders.
The wills seems to specify that John Sanders was the son of William but
doesn't on Phillip and Mary (but they must be). Might not mean anything.

Onto the son's of William (will 1726):

William d 1768 married to Elizabeth Gunnel children:
James
Hardy
William
Elizabeth
Elias*** looking for info
John
Mary
Lewis
Robert
Henry or Hendrey (this son was left to be raised by Wm's brother James &
wife Sarah Gunnel, William specified this in his will. James' will (1778)
mentions his nephew Henry)

I believe there were two son's with similar names (Hardy & Henry) but
they were two different people. I would be very interested in talking with
anyone about the son's of either of these brothers (william and james and
the gunnel sisters they married.)

James d 1778 married Sarah Gunnel. Their children were:
Mary
William
John
Gunnel
James
Barbary
Presley
Henry
Moses
Aaron
Cyrus

Kathy, who was Lynus & Barbara, was the reference to Barbary? I don't
remember if Barbary was a female or not and thought maybe Lynus was her?
husband? Just went back to ED'S WEBPAGE and James mentions his daughter
Barbera. So she married a Lynus?

Does anyone know where the family of William & Elizabeth Gunnel Sanders
went after William died? Since he lived in Fairfax, VA all his life (so
says info on Ed's page) I am wondering if they moved to MARYLAND and that is
why the will was probated there? I see the reference to Chester Co, SC for
some of James' children. James (d 1778) mentions in his will, "....my land
lately in North Carolina." Someone out there must know where the heck this
land was? I need some help!! My ancestor, Elias Sanders was said to have
been born in MARYLAND or NORTH CAROLINA, depending on the source. I think
he's from this family and would like for anyone that hasn't already made
contact with me to please do so. It would be greatly appreciated as any of
you know that are running into those brick walls is very frustrating and
also wonderful when you break through them.

P.S. Does anyone know if the GORE family that some of the SAUNDERS
married into is
related to our possible future President?

Gale and other researchers,
Sorry to take so long. This is what I found now that I
finally had time to look through all my notes on Sanders.

Philip Sanders m/Elizabeth ?
(Philip left a Will in Westmoreland Co, Virginia dated 1722, mentions
children Ursulee Sanders Taylor and son William Sanders, also mentions
grandchildren Philip, John & Mary Sanders. There have to be Williams
children)

Williams Sanders, son of Philip, married Elizabeth ? .
(He left a Will in Westmoreland Co, Virginia dated 1727. Mentions
wife Elizabeth but not sure if she is mother of children, Children: John,
Philip, William, James, Mary Ursula and Sarah. The mother of the
children may have been Mary Remy who married a Williams Sanders in 1709.
Notice he has a daughter named Mary, but none named Elizabeth.)

1)James Sanders, son of William above, married Sarah Gunnell
2)William Sanders, son of William above married Elizabeth Gunnell,
(both daughters of William Gunnell of Westmoreland Co, VA, Stafford and
finally Fairfax Co, VA)

1)James & Sarah
(James left a Will in Loudoun Co, VA, Apr 10,1778. had children:
James, John, Presley, Henry, Aaron, Lynus & Barbara.

2)William & Elizabeth
(William left a Will in Frederick Co, MD dated Jan 1, 1768. Had
children: Elias Sanders, Elizabeth Sanders, William Sanders who married
Easter Gore, James Sanders I who married Mary Gore in 1766 and had son
William Gunnell Sanders, Hendry(this might be same person as Hardy)
Sanders, Hardy Sanders, John Sanders, Mary Sanders, Lewis Sanders, Robert
Sanders)

William Gunnell Sanders and a possible brother James Sanders II were
both in Chester Co, SC around 1790s.

This was all in the Chester Co, Bulletin in 1992.

I hope this helps someone in their research. This is all the
information I have on them. There were several other articles on the
GORE family in that same Chester Co, Bulletin, probably also in 1992.

Good luck, Kathy Wells.
