Hi Glenda,

Your Adam SANDERS is the son of William SAUNDERS and Sarah SHEEK, and grandson of Henry SAUNDERS and Mary WEST. He was born in Rowan (that part that is now Davie) Co., NC. The SAUNDERS family lived very near the town of Smith Grove in (now) Davie County. Yours is the first contact I have had with any of Adam's descendants.

My line is from your Adam's brother, William SAUNDERS (Jr.). You can see your new SAUNDERS, WEST, LOVE, SHEEK\SCHICK, and MOLER\MOULDER ancestry from my site below.

I had followed Adam's family as late as 1870 in Gordon County, but not researched them further. From the will of his brother James SAUNDERS in 1850, Adam and brother Jacob had received his land, after the death of his (James's) wife Polly. The document that connects your Adam is that he sold his rights in that land in Davie Co., NC in 1853 as a resident of Gordon Co., GA. [See note #31 at site below].

There is no extant marriage bond for Adam to Mary GIBSON, but the marriage announcement of Adam SAUNDERS and Miss Mary GIBSON appeared in the 3 Dec. 1835 issue of the *Raleigh Star*, so they were probably married shortly before then. Adam apparently had no children, or at least none that survived by his first wife. I don't know who Mary's parents were, but GIBSON was not a name that I ever recall seeing among the families in that area of Davie County.

I noticed that you listed your line as SANDERS. Did Adam's line continue to spell the name that way? Did they pronounce it SAUNDERS or SANDERS? Although occasionally spelled SANDERS in records, descendants of Adam's brothers William, Jacob, and John all spelled it SAUNDERS. There are enough records of their father William and grandfather Henry as SAUNDERS, so that although sometimes spelled SANDERS by clerks in records, I'm sure both were pronouncing it SAUNDERS.
