I think our compatriot has done us a considerable service by bringing this attempt at distortion of history to our attention. Thank you, Sir. We all need to pay careful mind to such as this and do everything we can to see that such does not find its way into the curricula of our schools or into textbooks used by students. Such false ideas placed in impressionable minds will no doubt be very difficult if not impossible to eradicate.
Also I completely disagree with those who object to our discussion because they think it is political. This SARTALK is confined to members of our organization, does not represent (or even pretend to represent) the views of the NSSAR organization and are not for public dispersion. These are members talking to members, who, unless the rules have changed, may discuss ANYTHING they wish in person to person conversation or by any other means. It would be an entirely different thing if the NSSAR officially endorsed any candidate for public elected office, which we, of course, do not do.
And furthermore, the current discussion is a matter concerning HISTORY, not politics, and is clearly a subject of interest and concern to members of an organization concerned with history and with education. If we cannot discuss matters of importance on SARTALK, it is time to close it down, and perhaps just close up shop entirely.
Thses views are those of one member and are for the information of other MEMBERS of the NSSAR and are not for public release.
