Subject: [[SAR-TALK]] SAR Message Board on RootsWeb
Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 10:18:17 EST
RootsWeb has initiated (on its own initiative) an SAR Message Board so that
people interested in the SAR could post messages as they do on the DAR
Message Board (which has brought hundreds of inquiries to the DAR). It is a
bit tricky to find the Board from the RootsWeb home page, but you may go
directly to the Message Board by using the URL and extensions shown below:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&
p=topics.organizations.sar
(Note: RootsWeb is now a subsidiary of Ancestry.com.)
I have posted the appended note there as a reply to one message so that
people interested in the SAR wil be directed to our list of membership
contacts and to our Web site. This should be a good channel through which to
make contact with people interested in joining the SAR.
The Membership Committee may wish to name one or two people to monitor this
board weekly and reply to new messages. For the DAR several members take
turns on a daily basis (one person per day on rotating schedule) to monitor
the board, but the SAR board has less traffic, so a weekly check should be
sufficient. We have already had one inquiry referred from the DAR board to
the GASSAR for a man who wants to join the SAR and who has a patriot ancestor
listed in the DAR Patriot Index.

If you are the descendent of a patriot of the American Revolution you may be
interested in joining the SAR. Email contacts for a recruiter in the state in
which you reside can be found at www.sar.org/membship/statmshp.htm
The Sons of the American Revolution is an organization of men who are
descended from the patriots who secured independence from foreign rule,
liberty to speak and to pray and to bear arms, freedom from having our homes
invaded, and representative democracy. We support historical research, awards
to citizens who serve as good examples, and sound education on the
foundations of our democracy. To find out more, see www.sar.org
