Yes, much has been learned about the cemetery of field stone markers of over
a hundred graves of the South Carolina militia that got sick with typhoid
fever and were buried at the Ramapo Pass in New York state. They were
ordered by General Washington to hold the pass from British invasion. Over
a hundred of them perished there and there is no marker of any kind to
commemorate their bravery. Roger King, a compatriot from New York was the
one who brought this to my attention because he knew that I was from South
Carolina originally. Since I last posted my message on the internet, the
New York DOT has paid for a study of the grave site by using ground
Penetrating radar. I have a copy of the radar report and it clearly shows
the graves all in rows of over a hundred graves.. Also some of the grave
stones have markings scratched on them with the dates of 1778 and initials
of the soldiers. We were hoping to be able to match the initials on the
stones with the names of the men in the militia regiment and erect proper
markings. It would be nice if the SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION would
make it a project to see if a proper marker telling of these patriots valor
would be installed. For more information on this, you may email me at
the study is ongoing to determine the names of the
militiamen buried there.

> back in March of last year Bill Fredrickson had requested any information
about a group of South Carolina soldiers who perished of an epidemic during
the Revolutionary War in the Ramapo Mountains of NY, holding a pass for
General Washington. he said there is a cemetery of over a hundred
fieldstones marking their graves, and was looking for anyone who might have
some information about those SC soldiers.
