Dorothy,
I am researching GRIFFIN, and the following may or may not help you, but:
James G. GRIFFIN married an Elizabeth DURDEN 27 Dec 1777, in Cowan Co. NC,
the bondsman was Willis GRIFFIN, the witness was Thos. VAIL.

Another researcher and I went to a couple of cemeteries in Autagua Co. and
there were a lot of DURDEN'S buried there (can not remember exactly which
cemetery, or where. I will try to find out, if you like.) I am not sure if
the GRIFFIN/DURDEN's are going to work into my line, but at some point you
tend jump out on other peoples limbs, trying to connect yours! Hope I have
helped!
Thanks
Linda
