Happy Halloween to all!
I have mixed and matched some data on Singleton lines which is starting to be
straightened out by collaboration and help from Gary Singleton, Tom Land, Don
Singleton, Elizabeth Girardeau (Betty), Patti Williams, and others.
Especially of late via info volunteered by and from Gary Singleton. My
thanks to all, but of late, particuarly to Gary Singleton.
In particular, my years old incomplete Singleton research had wrongly picked
up some of Robert Singleton of SC (brother of Col Matthew Singleton) line who
moved to Claiborne Co Mississippi. To correct myself, the (Rev) Joseph
Singleton found in GA was not of my direct Singleton line nor were he or his
descendants part of Wyatt Singleton's direct line. Instead, these SC/MISS/GA
Singletons, who may or may not be kin, were: Richard and Martha James
Singleton (he is son of lst Robert Singleton, bro. of Matthew Singleton and
she is niece of Matthew Singleton's wife, Mary James) were the parents of
(Rev) Joseph Singleton, who was the father of Rev. Joseph Jeremiah Singleton,
who m. Mary Ann Terrell in GA., etc, etc.
I publicly state that some of my previous postings were wrong and the
following, derived largely from work shared with me by Gary Singleton, should
in part correct these errors as to the correct line of Wyatt Singleton,
brother of Hezekiah Singleton and of Susanna Singleton, their sister. Pls do
not confused the Rev Wyatt R Singleton of my direct line, who was the
grandson of Hezekiah Singleton, son of Henry Singleton and his second wife,
Nancy Cotton:
Wyatt Singleton was 37 on the date of William Singleton's (wife Lucy Morris)
Estate Sale in Lunenburgh Co VA. It is now presumed be me and perhaps Gary
Singleton that William and Lucy Morris Singleton were the parents of Wyatt
Singleton and Hezekiah Singleton, and their sister, Susanna Singleton.
Recall that Susanna Singleton m. William Taylor 28 Apr 1798 in Brunswick Co
VA, and their wedding witnesses were HEZEKIAH SINGLETON AND ELIZABETH
SINGLETON. Susanna Singleton Taylor then removes with her husband at a later
date to NC, where she dies and is buried in Taylor Cemetery...in NC.
Records that Gary Singleton (not I) has prove Wyatt, Hezekiah, and Susanna
Singleton were all at the 1816 estate sale of the William Singleton (w. Lucy
Morris) who Gary Singleton and I now think was their father. Gary Singleton
correctly notes that William Singleton had died in 1814, so there was an
almost two year delay in holding the estate sale.
Gary Singleton and I agree that Wyatt Singleton was 38 by June 1st, 1816,
the official "as of" date of the census of 1850.
The 1850 Pike Co. GA Census lists:
Wyatt Singleton........age 72............Farmer......Born in VA
Ann Singleton...........age 65.............................Born in VA
Sarah Singleton........age 29.............................Born in GA
William W. Singleton..age 26.........Farming.....Born in GA
I believe (this refers to Gary Singleton believes, but I now agree with him)
that the Georgia born [1809] Wyatt R. Singleton, son of the above Wyatt
Singleton, of Marion Co. and later of Schley Co GA.......m. the Congleton
girl. The Reverend Wyatt R. Singleton's 2nd wife was named Caroline.
Again I want to apologize to one and all for the "mismatched" SC to Miss to
GA line of Robert Singleton who I had mistakenly tried to connect up once
back in GA as the line of Wyatt Singleton.
This post is farm from complete and final, but at least shares early on the
conclusions Gary Singleton and I have arrived at to suggest and think that
William and Lucy Morris Singleton were the parents of Wyatt, Hezekiah, and
Susanna Singleton. Gary Singleton's info I think indicates perhaps other
siblings, but that is not defined as yet.
George Lightfoot Singleton
PS - Any and all comments, related data, conjectural statements, etc. are
invited by me. Don't be afraid to be critical...critical commentary is the
only way I was able to correct years of mistaken Singleton "connections".
