Didn't catch the beginning of this thread, but Maude CARTER CLEMENTS wrote a very interesting and informative book on Pittsylvania County, VA, which covers a lot of territory. Included are the counties from which Pittsylvania was eventually formed, and the counties formed from Pittsylvania, up until the separations. The book is appropriately titled A History of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and was published in 1929 (if I recall correctly). The only fault I have found is that the extensive index is not complete, and the volume must be read carefully to find all the mentions of the names one is researching. It can no doubt be obtained over InterLibrary Loan. I highly recommend it.
