SOUTH CAROLINA SERVICE AND
NORTH CAROLINA SERVICE OF WILLIAM BROWN AND NANCY BROWN (W 5878)

DECLARATION was made in Richmond County North Carolina 1832 July term William Brown
resident of said county and state age 69 or 70, who applied under Act of Congress of June
7, 1832.

States that some two or three months before the taking of SAVANNAH GEORGIA by the
British, he then residing in BLADEN COUNTY was drafted in the Rangers or Thompson light
horse and joined Col Thompson corps under Capt Uriah Goodwin, and served more than 9
months, the forepart of said time in Wilmington, N C and the latter part in S C and was
stationed guarding the magazine at Savannah under Lieut. Hewsom (or Newsom); that after
the expiration of the time of service he came home to N C after which he served several
times under Capt Elias Pate (or Tate)?

In 1833 he stated he did not know in what year he was born but that he is 70 in 1833.

Nancy Brown widow of William Brown Richmond Co N C died in Richmond Co N C 1849 January
26 ; That Wm Brown died Oct 1847; two affidavits of D Snead and Thomas Beasley state they
were at the burial [sic] Wm Brown.

The affidavit of John W Snead, that the widow left surviving the following children;
Wilson Brown, Mary Brown Martha Brown, Nancy Brown and Huldah Brown intermarried with
Sterling Rachels, residing in Richmond Co N C and Henry Brown in Autauga County Alabama
and John Brown when last heard from resided in Kentucky, name of county not stated. John
W Sneed [sic] was appointed administrator of estate of Mrs Nancy Brown 16 Jan 1855 and
was admrx thereon. 1855.

Affidavit of Israel Snead in Richmond Co N C Affidavit made 1855 April 11, stating
regarding a faded bible leaf of family records as follows:

That the name of Thomas Brown listed on this bible record the oldest child of said Wm &
Nancy Brown is in the handwriting of this deponent; that if John Brown the 4th child of
said Wm & Nancy is alive he is very near the age of this deponent; that Wm and Nancy had
a family of Nine (9) children who remained in the family till their arriavl [sic] of age
or longer and Wm and Nancy lived together as man and wife ; that the nearest evidence of
their marriage before the first Jan 1764: is the record in his fathers hand writing of
the birth of Thomas who it appears was born 20 Oct 1791 and that he as well as all the
nine children were known and never doubted to be the children of the married couple said
Wm and Nancy Brown. Thomas Brown died long ago, Henly Brown now living in Alabama Daniel
B Brown dead five years ago, John Brown is [sic] some of the western states, and not
heard from for many years. Wilson Brown living in this county, and Mary, Martha, Nancy
and Huldah Brown lives in this county; that Wm and Nancy Brown were residents of Richmond
Co N C and died here Jan 26, 1849.

All of the faded bible records cannot be read. It looks like Daniel Snead was born 17__
or Sept 17??
Thomas Brown Junr born Oct 20 1797 fairly plain.

Declaration made in Richmond Co N C 1833 under Act of June 7, 1832, that Wm Brown was
born 1761 or 1762.

The widow Nancy Brown filed declaration April 1st, 1848 under Act of Feb 2 1848, stating
she is widow of Wm Brown a private of cavalry in the Revolution and who received a
pension of $37.50 per annum under Act of June 7 1832 and Wm Brown Died 18 October 1847,
that she was married to Wm Brown 1790.
