Subject: COURSEY, Jesse Coursey b. ca 1864 s/o of Ewell Coursey and 2nd wife, Elizabeth ?

Sorry for all the cross posting, but hope someone will help. I am trying to
develop information on the second family of my ggg-grandfather,
Ewell/Uel/Newell Coursey b. ca 1818, Edgefield Dist, SC

..... 2 James W. COURSEY b: Abt. 1851 in SC
..... 2 Franklin N. (?Newel) COURSEY b: Abt. 1856 in SC
......... +Sally/Cally UNKNOWN b: Abt. 1860 in Ga.
..... 2 Hulda (Elizabeth?) COURSEY b: Abt. 1858 in SC
..... 2 Jesse COURSEY b: July 1864 d: February 17, 1930 in Augusta, Richmond
Co, GA Burial: West View Cem., Augusta, GA
......... +SUSAN b: November 1864 d: Bet. 1904 - 1910
........... 3 Sarah COURSEY b: August 1895
......... +[C. E. READY]
........... 3 Ollie B. COURSEY b: June 1898
......... +Vernie UNKNOWN b: Abt. 1902 in SC
....................4 Dorothy COURSEY b: 1920
........... 3 Leroy COURSEY b: February 1900
........... 3 Lonnie B. COURSEY b: Abt. 1904

I have determined that these individuals are the half siblings of my
gg-grandfather, John Franklin Coursey, born Sept 26, 1836 Shaws township,
Edgefield Co, SC (part is now in Aiken Co.) d. March 26, 1912, Edgefield Co,
SC. His mother died and his father remarried to Elizabeth UNKNOWN. There are
other children, which I have listed in a complete outline below.

I have gotten some good documentation on the children of 1st wife, from whom I
descend, but not so for the all of the 2nd family. Have documentation of the
2nd marriage, but not 1st, except that Harriett Robertson was given as the
mother on the death cert. of Mary Jane Coursey Arthur, and the informant on her
death certificate is one JESSE COURSEY, who is probably her half brother Jesse
b. 1864.

This is JESSE's father, per my information and research, but I have no proof
that this Jesse is the same as the Jesse of the Census records with Ewell, UEL
COURSEY... however ages work, and IF I am remembering correctly, he was the
only one listed in Augusta GA census records. [Items in brackets need more
research for positive proof rather than circumstantial proof.]

is living alone, age 16 next to his sister Mary Ann Coursey Arthur. I would
assume from this that his mother was deceased. I did not find her in the 1880
census on the LDS CD's.

1889 - Michael B. Arthur and his father, Michael B. Arthur Sr. are both listed
in the Augusta, Richmond Co, GA city directory. They worked at Kings Mill and
reside at 79 & 78 Row near King Mill. Mary Jane is not listed as a mill
worker, so she is probably at home with any children that they had.

The following are Jesse Coursey's family: CENSUS records and I think his OBIT:

I don't know anything about ALICE GARVIN either????

The following obit was published in the Augusta Chronicle, 18 Feb, 1930. ??Is
this the JESSE COURSEY that I am looking for??

Jesse Bryant Coursey, 69, died yesterday after noon at the residence 1430
Broad St.. Funeral Services will be conducted this afternoon at 4:30. Rev. A.
A. Sullivan will officiate and interment will be in West View Cem. Papoose
Tribe No. 10, I. O. R. M. and Juanite Council No. 3 Pocahontas will conduct
special services.
Mr. Coursey is survived by two sons, O. B. Coursey and L. B. Coursey;
daughter Mrs. C. E. Ready and six grandchildren.

I hope someone has some information on some of the folks included in the family
listings and census records to help me identify the folks in more detail.
Would love to know the last name of the mother of Jesse Coursey, if someone has
access to any GA death certificates. I do get a little upset with folks who
don't put predeceased relatives, especially parents, into the obits! Don't
forget to look at COSSEY, CORSEY, COURSY, etc. I even found one listed in one
SC census as a CASEY.
