I am also researching my ADAMS line in SC, possibly Anderson Co.
bf/ 1800. My only record, in a family Bible is that 2Gr.g.father -
JOHN ABRAM ADAMS, Sr. was born bet.1798-1800 in Anderson, SC.
He patented land in AL, and was on the 1840 census in Shelby Co,AL.
In 1846 he mar. my 2Gr.g.mother - MARTHA WILDER in Shelby Co, AL.
This would've made him 46-48 years old, and surely he was mar. bf/
this... to whome, we don't know. On the 1850 census and in some
court records he was assos. w/ a Silas Adams (b.abt. 1817) and an
Isaac Adams, who at one time lived in Talladega Co,AL & died in
Shelby Co, AL in 1857. John Abram Adams, Sr. died in Shelby Co,AL
in June 1870.
Any info. on this line would be welcomed. I'm willing to share any
info. or sources with someone who could shed some light on this
family.
Thanks, Martha

Subject: Researching the Adams and Shepherds
I am researching several family lines that go back to Edgefield County
and
several issues that I want to resolve.
1. Did Edgefield County come from the old 96 District?
2. In the 1790 and the 1820 Census, there is a George Shepherd listed
in
the Old Ninety Six District that could be my g-g-g-g-grandfather. In
the 1790
census, he is listed in Newberry. The 1820 census lists him in
Edgefield.
In 1820, my g-g-g-grandfather, Laborn (also spelled Laban and
Labron)born
December 22, 1800 was 19 or 20 years old. Of the Shepherds in that
county,
George is the only one with a white male in the correct age range
(19-25). Is
there any information in the Edgefield County Deed Books or Wills or
Tax Lists
that would help me discover this link? Does the Old Edgefield
Genealogical
Society have any books in the library that would give me some
information on
these Shepherds?
3. My g-g-g-grandfather Laborn Shepherd married Lavicie Adams, who was
the
daughter of Anthony Adams. He was born December 20, 1786 and is listed
in
the 1810 Census of Lexington County, South Carolina. Does anyone
research the
Adams and would know of this family? I am trying to find the name of
his
wife and his ancestors?
Thank you.
Jan Stewart
