In Equity, To the Honr. the Chancellors; Your oratrix Margaret Mathews, sheweth, that her late husband Joseph C. Mathews was possessed with a tract of land on waters of Little River known as the Patterson tract, granted to John Patterson the 14 Jan 1791. That on the 6 April 1853, Joseph C. Mathews entered into an agreement for sale of said tract, with George A. Christopher. Said agreement was written, signed & sealed, but no legal conveyance was ever executed by Joseph C. Mathews. Joseph C. Mathews was possessed with another tract of land, known as the home tract, bound by land of James Edward Calhoun, Lewis Covin & others. That on ___ day of Jan. 1854 Joseph C. Mathews departed this life testate. Heirs at law mentioned in will are: Thomas J. Mathews, Ezekiel W. Mathews & Joseph A. Mathews, Mary Mathews, Lucretia Mathews, Jane A. the wife of George A. Christopher, Rachel C. the wife of Patrick McCaslan, Elizabeth T. the wife of James Shanks, Margaret E. the wife of Clar!
k C. or A. McGaw, Martha L. the wife of Samuel S. Wilson, Caroline the wife of William Robison and Mary the wife of Edward Burns. Filed 30 April 1856. On another paper Robison is written Ribinson, Mary Burns was written Nancy Burns... On 30 April 1856 Ezekiel Mathews, Joseph A. Mathews, William Robinson, Edward Burns were residing beyond the limits of this State... A copy of the will in pack... Dated 2 Jan 1854... filed 27 May 1856. No executor named in will. Wits: M. O. Talman, A. Houston, James Macelvey...wife Margaret and unmarried daughters to live on the home place, until death or marriage, and are to have negroes, Betty, Fanny & Andrew. At death of wife to be property of unmarried dtrs.
