Surname: SHELLHOUSE, CUSHMAN, HANCOCK
-------------------------
New Bridge Messenger, Vol 4, No 1, May 1963:
Mrs. Evie Shellhouse Cushman, aged 85, died at her home at
2:30 PM, Saturday, March 30th. She made her home with her
son, Mr. J.H. Cushman, Jr., RFD#1, Batesburg, S.C. Funeral
services were held on April 1st at Darian Baptist Church
with the Rev. Mr. J.B. Redd, assisted by the Rev. Mr.
Carlton Robertson, officiating. Interment in the Church
Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Aiken County Mrs. Cushman was the
daughter of the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Mahalia Hancock
Shellhouse of Shaws Fork and she was the widoW of the late
Mr. "Jim Hamp" Cushman. She was a member of Darian Baptist
Church. She had been in failing health the past 18
months. Surviving ar four daughters and five sons; three
sisters, 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased and honorary
pallbearers were the Deacons of Darian Baptist Church and
friends of the family.
Mrs. Chapman's daughters are Mesdames Lillie Cushman, Mae
Munday, and Sallie Grice of Aiken, and Mrs. Lila Scott,
Williston.
The sons are Lee and Wyman Cushman Aiken; Lewis of
Windsor; J.H. of Batesburg, and Wilbur Cushman, of Augusta,
Ga.
And how this brings back memories. Mr. and Mrs. Shellhouse
were the parents of eight mighty fine daughters, and it was
a favorite gathering place for the young folks of our
youth -- and both earlier and later, -- and we spent many
pleasant hours in their home, though "Evie" had married and
left the parental roof before our teens.)
