Personal preferences aside, there is no difference to your machine
whether it stores on a internal, external, floppy, cd or zip. A disk is
a place with an identifying letter where data is sent. Some can accept
the data faster and hence the transfer from ram to disk may be less time.
A writable cd has it all over a zip from the standpoint of media cost
and storage capacity per media. One thirty cent cd will hold 750 MB, 3
or more times a common zip. They're much easier to give away, and
nearly every computer made in the last five years can read them.
Laptops can have cd drives too.
So for something you might be working on like a book or office project
with frequent changes in stored files there may be some preference for a
zip disk, otherwise someone looking for a way to get started in large
transportable storage systems should avoid zip disks as obsolescent
technology. JMHO.
