snip "but DirectCD formats new CD-RW disks and adds the UDF (Universal
Disk Format) reader software to the disk during the format process. As I
understand it, this allows other computers to read it without having CD
reader software installed on the computer. " snip

Don't count on this always being the case. My daughter and I have identical
computers, and hers can't read a CD-RW that has been fromatted on mine with
Direct CD. We were both very disappointed at this. Based on this I would
venture to guess that others wouldn't be able to read it either, though I
haven't tried yet.
