Instruction manuals for photo software may be limited in discussion of the
features used for basic scanning and touchup of family pictures. Graphics
experts who recommend complex image programs may be spending hours editing a
single image using artistic features and printing one high-quality image at
a time.

One person has posted about a family book with 100 pictures included in a
word processor file. My personal limit was 50 pictures in Word 2000 using an
older computer. Hope that she will share more details about suitable sizes
for pictures for a book project.

Using (some) scans as they are collected is a good idea. I have a set of
"pastels" from a 1996 page scanner that were edited too much. Collected when
the monitor was not set to match the printer.

Paint Shop Pro is the only image program found that can be used alone for my
family history projects, though I also like some features in the new
AfterShot (another Jasc program.) Image requirements affect my use of
genealogy software -- one file per potential book with "all available"
images rather than all names in a single file and separate programs/files
for images.
