I recently came back from a genealogy trip to Nebraska and are some of
my thoughts. I have a Nikon 995 and had excellent results. I took about
400 pictures of old family bibles, documents/photos at the historical
society and in the museum without the use of a flash and at various
cemeteries. Not one of my photos was a reject. The quality was excellent
and has printed out with great detail. Doing tombstones at the wrong
time of day was not a problem. Everyone one of them came out crystal
clear and some which were unreadable by the naked eye were readable
after I downloaded them into my laptop.
I chose the Nikon digital because of the great results I have gotten
with my 35mm which is also a Nikon. The things that I looked for were
the highest mega pixels available within my price range (actually I
ended up going a little higher in price than I had planned but the
sacrifice has been worth it!); and the other thing was the optical lens
rating plus how close I could get to my subject. At the time I got my
camera, the Nikon was the only one to come within a 1/2 inch of the
subject; the rest would come in on to about a foot to 1 and 1/2 feet.
When looking at cameras do a couple of things, look at the photos that
that particular camera takes and also how they have printed them out. Go
for the highest number of mega pixels and optical lens number that you
can afford if you want a high quality print.
You will not be sorry. Kathy
