Subject: TOOLE/HEATH BARNWELL & AIKEN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA
I am still trying to unscrambled the TOOLE & HEATH connections in the
Aiken-Barnwell area of South Carolina.
Still trying to identify the Frances Heath who is suppose to have married
Uncle Albert Toole b. 1855 d. 1922 age 67 years. Buried in the Old Spring
Cemetery at New Ellenton, South Carolina. Trying to fill in the gaps in the
family tree in preparation for a Durham family reunion in Georgia the second
weekend in June. For some reason the family moved to Georgia c. 1871-74.
His sister Hattie (Harriet Ann) married Joseph Vinson Durham in Greene
County, Georgia, in 1875.
Albert and Frances Toole lived on a small farm in the area of old Ellenton
taken into the Savannah River Plant area and their children attended school
there in the early 1900's.
Three sources agree that they had five children, three boys older and then
two girls. None gave their names. All were born after 1880 and deceased by
1967 except the youngest girl, May/Mae Toole Mongeau, who was living at Box
318-A Rt. #1 Aiken, South Carolina 29801. She wrote that she would be 75 in
May, 1967, which would make her born in 1892. She had no children just a
stepson in Boston,Mass., and her husband was deceased. She wrote that her
sister had died Oct. 17, 1965. Was there an obituary for her in the Aiken
newspaper? She also mentioned a daughter of her sister who lived one street
over and looked in her. I don't access to the 1900, 1910, or 1920 South
Carolina census available here in East Texas libraries only in Dallas or
Houston, three hours away. Where is May Toole Mongeau buried? I have not
found her in the indexes of three volumes of Akinen County Cemetery books.
Would appreciate any help. Dates in the Old Spring cemetery do not match or
either they were transcribed wrong. Frances Toole, b. 7-27-1885, d.
8-8-1916, wife of A. A. Toole could not have been having children in the
late 1880's and early 1890's. Was she a daughter -in-law rather than a wife
of Albert above? What a mess!!!
