I sent a link to the group where the pics are. And yes, we are speaking of the Civil War. The Hunley was the first submarine used in war.

I was not aware there were submarines during the Civil War era. Are you sure you don't mean WWI? Are you speaking of two different topics....i.e. a submarine and the Civil War? Please explain what you are talking about and tell me where I can see these photographs.

Thanks,
Debra

Beth,
Thank you for sharing all of the wonderful pictures of the Hunley Funeral.
My husband just recently finished reading all about this submarine that was
used in the Civil War, and the search for it for so many years. An old
friend from Charleston wrote to me that she attended the funeral, and she
heard that somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty of the re-enactors passed
out from the heat in their uniforms. She said she personally saw six. I
expect our ancestors had a similar problem back during the war. I have
heard so many people comment that they thought it should have been on TV.
There are not only Southerners, but historians all over the country that
might have been interested in seeing at least a part of the memorable parade
and service held for the men who gave their lives in this war. Their was
an hour long special on the Discovery channel a week or so ago about the
raising of the sub, and the ultimate hunt to identify the men who went down
with her. It would be nice to see a follow-up now, but in the meantime, the
pictures were most appreciated.
