Dear Tony,
Since no one seems to have answered your query on Barnaby Brown, I will
take a "crack" at it. I am going by the 1850 census of Barnwell District,
SC. published in paperback form by Jarrell, 1/2000 because it is indexed. I
can get to the original census images through Texshare for free, but there
is no index for 1850 with the aheriatage Quest Database.
Here, I think you might have a case of the SAME FAMILY ENUMERATED TWICE
(????) on the same census as both entries seem to be in the Upper Three Runs
area of early Barnwell now in the Savannah River Atomic Energy Project
Restricted area. I can't account for the Mary missing from one entry, but
if Eliza (Elizabeth/Betsy/Betsey) are the same person just about everything
would fit. aGES JUST OFF(?)
I am not researching Browns, but both entries are near TOOLE families and
their connections which I am researching. So if you find any Toole
connections I am interested.
The first entry which you have listed last might should be Page 365, House
#612. This is the one missing the Mary.
The first entry you have listed which would be the second one listed on the
census, I have shown as page 413, House #1403. William's age is transcribed
as 41 by Jarrell which might make more sense. The paperback does not give
the enumeration dates of the house visits.
This 41 age would make more sense. Mary might have been William's mother
and Eliza/Betsey his wife. But then that does not fit with the later years
you have.
Good Luck unscrambling your census entries. Any TOOLE connections
appreciated as they were definitely neighbors. Looking at your entries,
makes me wonder just how accurate my TOOLE family information is from the
census. In my case I have some TOOLE Bible Records and two sets of passed
down and passed around TOOLE family information plus the Manning papers that
I have been trying to match up for several years now with the census
information.

In 1850, there are apparently two 15-year-old Barney Browns in Barnwell
County, SC.
1850 Census Barnwell District, South Carolina, p. 412B
Enumerated 25 Sep 1850
Wm Brown 61 M Planter SC
Mary 60 F SC
Eliza 37 F SC
Barney 15 M SC
********************************************
1850 Census Barnwell District, South Carolina, p. 364B
Enumerated 15 Aug 1850
Wm Brown 60 M Planter SC
Betsy 30 F SC
Barney 15 M SC
*********************************************
In 1860, we find a B. S. Brown who appears to be the same Barney who was
enumerated with William and Mary Brown in 1850. The Barney enumerated with
William and Betsy is unaccounted for.
1860 Census Barnwell District, Silverton P.O., South Carolina, p. 434A
Enumerated 18 Aug 1860
B. S. Brown 25 M Farmer SC
William 71 M SC
Elizabeth 46 F SC
*********************************************
In 1870, we find a Barney S. Brown in Columbia County, Georgia who is of
the
appropriate age and birthplace to be either of the two Barneys previously
mentioned.
1870 Census Columbia County, Thomson P.O., Georgia, p. 104A
Enumerated 3 Sep 1870
Barney S. Brown 37 M W Works on Farm SC
Louisa 28 F W Keeping House GA
Benjamin B. 9 M W SC
William 4 M W SC
Andrew 1 M W GA
Elizabeth 67 F W Helps Keep House GA
***********************************************
Does anyone out there know for sure if the 1870 Barney is in fact one and
the same as any of the previously mentioned Barneys?
