To Gwen Stuart and list members,
I have posted to these lists in the past about TOOLES and related families
in Barnwell and Aiken County.
I have a double Toole line from Richard I. Manning (RIM)(called Manning)
Toole who married a Mary D. Green c. 1851 and migrated over to Clarke/Oconee
County, Georgia, c. 1871-1874. His father was Stephen Toole, son of Isaac
Toole of Barnwell. The area where they lived, Three Runs, is now in the
Savannah River Project land. I have quite a bit of information in my
computer gen program on Toole and various connecting families, but the
Greens have been a stone wall for years. Some information in papers files I
have never gotten entered. It has been a long time since I worked on Toole.
I have been doing genealogy off and on for over 40 years.
Gwen, you and I need to talk off list about TOOLE and HEATH and other
related family connections in Aiken and Barnwell County, South Carolina. I
am writing from memory because if I take time to look up specific dates, I
will get sidetracked on to other research. I have corresponded with the
person who posted the original Johnson, Toole, and Puckett query. However,
I don't recall corresponding with Gwen Stuart. If I did it has not been
recently. My paper files are really in a big mess.
I have compiled some information on Heaths though Heath is not a direct
line for me. However, Heath is a direct line for my great aunt by marriage
on my mother's side and my mother's first cousins. Both her parents were
Heaths from Aiken/Barnwell; she claimed unrelated to each other. I regret
that she died before I figured out that she and her husband, my great uncle.
were also probably cousins on the Toole side. One of her lines goes back to
the Elsie Toole m. Hansford D. Heath of the query below. Albert Toole who
is buried in Springs Methodist Cemetery at New Ellenton, another 2 great
uncle went back to Aiken/Barnwell and married into this Heath line as well?
I have some SC death certificates for proof along with proof that some of
the information on them is not correct.
Now to the questions! I have traced back to two different Heath man in
early Barnwell District. Were they related or were they two different
lines?
Do you have any proof that Elsie's maiden name was Toole besides
speculation from the census? I have guessed that Cullen and Kayann
(Kesiah?)Toole were Elsie Heath's brother and sister and that their parents
were deceased by 1850. This is household #611 on page 365 of the 1850
Barnwell Dist. census where Handford Heath 32 is head of household with wife
Elsey Heath 28. By the process of elimination I have guessed that these
three Toole children (actually young adults) were either the children or
grandchildren of Isaac's son Luke Toole. I have no idea who or how the
George infant was connected. I found from any early c. 1806 deed that Luke
was married to a Mary_?_ at that time. Was Luke married once or twice?
Were these three children by the same mother??? I have found some
descendents of the Cullen Toole, his age is a little "fuzzy!". He moved
over to Georgia, southwestern part, from Augusta where it seems a lot of
South Carolina people moved.
I seem to remember recently seeing a posting that a document had been found
that listed the children of Luke Toole, son of Isaac Toole. No source given
or a description as to what it was? Deed, Bible,Will,??? I have not
followed up on that query as yet. I will have to remember where I saw it and
then look to see if I saved it.
Would like to exchange information.
