Please excuse the duplication for those of you on the Colleton County mailing
list.

A very basic "bare bones" page is now up for Colleton County African American
heritage. Please check it out and see if there's anything you would like
to contribute, or let me know if you have additional ideas.

This page has two purposes:

1. To publish the histories of the African Americans who lived in and made
an enormous contribution to the early development of Colleton County, and

2. To coordinate and share information that will contribute to the genealogy
research of African American families in Colleton County.

If your ancestors lived in Colleton County and owned slaves, and you have
copies of any documents (such as wills) documenting slave information,
please, please, please consider posting those to the appropriate GenConnect
board and *also* give the Colleton County SCGenWeb permission to post them
on its site (I can copy and paste it to a web page). Your information could
be the missing piece of the puzzle for someone researching his/her African
American ancestors. It is *very* difficult research without these clues!

Our families, white and black, shared a history. Let's all help each other
unlock these doors.

I'd also like to encourage everyone to join the Colleton County mailing
list, for more open dialog. Instructions are linked from the main page
of the Colleton County SCGenWeb.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

Pat Sabin
