My g-grandfather:
Joseph James Pendarvis, age 72 years, died at his home in Escatawpa, MS
on Tuesday afternoon, January 9, 1940 after an illness of some months.
Deceased had been in the employ of Dantzier Lumber Company for a number
of years, until the past two or three years, since which time he has
been practically an invalid. He was a member of the Baptist church. He
is survived by his widow:
Molly Jones Pendarvis (daughter of John W. Jones & Ann Kennedy) three
sons:

Subject: George Pendarvis, brother of J. J. Pendarvis of MS
This is a "copy" of the obit of George Pendarvis, son of James Joseph
Pendarvis (Sr), Lake Placid, FL, sent to me by a cousin. There is not a
death date on the copy I have.

George Pendarvis, Lake Placid Area Pioneer Dies: Was 96 born: Dec 20,
1863
--
One of Lake Placid's, and oldest resident, GEORGE PENDARVIS,
96, passed away quietly at 5:am Wednesday at his home here.
Mr. Pendarvis had been in failing heath for some time and
seriously ill for several weeks.
He lived in Lake Placid for 35 years. Born in
Newmanville, Alachua, Co., Florida on Dec 26, 1863 -during the civil
war- he was the eighth of nine children to Joseph James Pendarvis and
Nancy Williams Pendarvis. Both of his parents died when Mr.
Pendarvis was a small child and he was raised by an older brother.
He was first married to Susie Benedict, who died shortly
after the birth of their only child, Roy. Mr. Pendarvis
first visited the sand hills of Lake Placid shortly after the turn of
the century. He returned in the 1920's and purchased the land of a
former neighbor when they both lived in Sumpter Co, Mr.Drew TOWNS. Mr
Towns had planted orange, lemon, and lime groves. On the
homestead, Mr. Pendarvis helped produce the first "Tahiti" variety of
limes in Florida.
Mr. Pendarvis was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and
First Baptist Church of Lake Placid.
Surviving in addition to is widow are his son Roy, of Lake
Placid: four grandchildren, a stepdaughter Gertrude. And 12
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, afternoon at 2:30 at
First Baptist Church of Lake Placid with the Rev. D.C. Spillman
officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Stevenson's Funeral Home
of Sebring had charge of arrangements.

George Pendarvis, son of James Joseph Pendarvis and Nancy Williams
Pendarvis.
It does not mention her first name.

Mrs. George Pendarvis will observe her 99th birthday anniversary Friday
and her daughter, Mrs. George Armstrong will hold an open house at her
home in Lake Huntley, Friday from 2 to 4. All friends are invited to
stop by and visit Mrs. Pendarvis. ---
Mrs. Pendarvis and her husband moved to Lake Placid, which was then Lake
Sterns, in 1922. At that time there was only a grocery store and a depot
here, says Mrs.Pendarvis.

The First Baptist Church was organized on the front porch of the Frank
Lewis home, and among the charter members were Mrs. Lewis, Mrs.
Pendarvis, Mrs. A. Quinter. Mrs. Lewis was the first S.S.teacher, and
Mrs Pendarvis also served as teacher and was active in mission work all
over Lake Placid.

Mrs. Pendarvis was very active and able to drive her own car until 1963.

January, 1939 MS and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Jones. Joseph James
Pendarvis married Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Jones in 1895, in
JacksonCounty, Escatawpa, at the home of her father, John W. Jones. Mary
was born 23 June, 1868 in Jackson Co. MS. and died 6 March, 1951, She is
the daughter of John W. Jones MS & Ann Kennedy AL. The info on Mary's
mother was sent to me by a researcher.

when he moved to Chicago,ILL. with brother George Schultz, and one
sister Casandra, Henry and family came to America and were to stay with
a relative- J.Kessel.
