Dear Tom:
Thank you for the wonderful information regarding Clarkie Rice Risher. My Clarkie Rice married first a man by the surname of Cotton. I do not know where the marriage took place; but it could have happened in Darien in McIntosh County, Georgia somewhere prior to 1831. She was born in the Old Barnwell District, S. C. in 1811. Her second marriage was to John Y. Smith on December 3, 1836. John Y. Smith must have died somewhere between 1836 and her last marriage to George Davis on February 10, 1842. Her marriages to John Smith and George Davis took place in Savannah, Georgia. I do not know anything about the family of John Y. Smith, and I have not been able to locate any children of this marriage. I stem from her last marriage to George Davis. Clarkie and George Davis lived in Springfield, GA during the American Civil War. If I locate any informtion regarding her Smith marriage I will let you know. If you took a line from Charleston, S. C. to Bamberg, S. C., to Walterboro, S. C. !
to Beaufort, S. C. and back to Charleston, S. C. I believe that my family's history lays in this area. Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Carole Melson.
