Hi all,
I've recently received info from a distant cousin, concerning
land grants made to Matthew Craft, who enlisted in the War of 1812
(probably in 1814) in Darlington District, SC, and was in the same
regiment, Alston's 3rd Reg't, as my GGG Gf Thomas Craft from that
District. Matthew migrated on to Lexington Co, in 1816, aquiring
land grants totaling nearly 1500 acres, and my Thomas & family,
along with his mother, Rachel (a widow) migrated into Eastern TN
about 1820. Can anyone connect with these Craft lines, and does
anyone know under what circumstances Matthew could have received
land grants from the State of South Carolina in 1816...bounty land
for that war was not offered until about 1853, and Matthew's age
seems to show he was born after 1790. All of the early records
on my line are from the Darlington, SC area, starting about 1780
and ending about 1820. Any help will be appreciated.
