Cottingham, Hamer Clewell
FLORENCE -- Hamer Clewell Cottingham, 78, husband of Marian Doty Cottingham,
died June 18, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Cottingham was born in Dillon County, the son of the late Marvin and
Cora Cottingham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during
WWII. He worked for many years with National Welders and was retired owner
of Cottingham Fire Extinguisher Service. He was a member of Ridgedrest
Baptist Church.
Mr. Cottingham was first married to the late Sara Snipes Cottingham.
Surviving besides his wife of 15 years are 3 daughters, Dr. Marty (Bill)
Davis of N. Charleston, Cheryl (Joe) Carraway and Allyson (Dale) Evans of
Florence; 2 step-daughters, Joan (Glenn) Whitt of Rainbow City, Ala., and
Lynda Comfort of Columbia; 2 step-sons, Kevin (Ellen) Doty and Dwight (Beth)
Doty of Florence; 7 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 2
great-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Missouri
Herndon of Bennettsville and Charlotte Rogers of Fork.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at
Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home
and other times at the residence, 3034 Boxwood Ave., Florence.
