FLORENCE — James Rufus Elliott, 66, of Florence, died Wednesday, May 16,
2007, at McLeod Hospice House after an illness.
He was born in Dillon County, a son of the late Rufus Elliott and Irene
Elizabeth Norman Elliott Fogle. He was a member of the Gaddys Mill Lodge No. 142
AFM in Dillon and a member of Bermuda Baptist Church in Dillon. He was
formerly employed as a salesman for Brothers Food of Dillon and later for Biggers
Brothers Food Service from where he retired in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Abby Johnson Elliott of the home; children, James
Darryl Elliott and his wife, Angela Renee Elliott, of Florence, LaCosta Paige
Mumford and her husband, Albert Chesley Mumford III, of Dillon, Chip Hardy and
his wife, Julie Hardy, and Kristy Oliver and her husband, Brad Oliver, all of
Florence; brother, Ronnie (Cathy) Elliott of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Karen
(Bud) Pyles of Marietta, Ga., and Norma Elliott of Dillon; grandchildren,
Nicholas Elliott, Kaitlyn Barnes, Chesley Mumford IV, Hannah Mumford, Caroline
Hardy, Kimberly Hardy, Noah Oliver and Dawson Oliver; sisters-in-law, Margaret
Harvey of North Myrtle Beach and Peggy (Fred) Williamson of Florence; and a
special cousin, Sybil Montrose of Florence.
Memorials may be made to South Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 2720 S.
Irby St., Florence, SC 29505; to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St.,
Florence, SC 29506; or to the Gideons, P.O. Box 4964, Florence, SC 29502.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, at South Florence Baptist
Church. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by
Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
