DILLON, SC — Mr. Harold Burnette H.B. Barfield, 74, passed away Sunday,
March 30, 2008, at his home.
Born April 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Alton and Edna Hayes Barfield
of Nichols. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he
served faithfully in many capacities and as a deacon. When elected to the position
as chairman of deacons, he made the distinction of being the youngest
chairman to serve in the state of S.C. He was also a past member of the Dillon
Lions Club. Mr. Barfield was affiliated with Brothers Food Inc. for 28 years. He
was co-owner of Cottingham Packing Company for 23 years from where he retired
in 2004. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and
Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving Mr. Barfield are: his beloved wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Herring
Barfield; daughters, Cynthia McDuffie (Ashley) of Dillon,
Jennifer Price (Bobo) of Fork, and Marsha Barfield of Dillon; sisters, Hilda
Elliott (Ernest) of Nichols, Tish Miller of Lake View, Gloria Hill (Bob) of
Mullins, Gail Hooks (Doug) of Sumter, and Kay Floyd (Harlan) of Loris; eight
grandchildren, Ryan McDuffie, Laura Anderson, Leah McDuffie, Rachel McDuffie,
Danielle Price Stroud, Elizabeth Dixon, Wesley Price, and Caroline Ivey; four
great-granddaughters, Alex Stroud, Logan Price, Ella and Price Dixon.
Mr. Barfield was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy and Hubert
Barfield.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church in Dillon with Dr. Joel Burke officiating. Burial will follow
in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. The family will
receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

South, Dillon, S.C. 29536.
