LATTA — Mr. Moses Kornblut, 93, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at McLeod
Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January
12, 2009, at Florence Jewish Cemetery on Church Street. Masonic Rites will
follow. The family will receive friends after the service at the residence, 402
W. Main St., Latta.
Mr. Kornblut was born in Latta on December 18, 1915, a son of the late Leon
and Lizzie Schafer Kornblut. He was the husband of the late Freda Baker
Kornblut. Mr. Moses was a kind, gentle man, and was a wonderful husband to his
wife and wonderful father to his children.
Mr. Moses was a member of Beth Israel Congregation in Florence and was on
the Board of Beth Israel Congregation. He was a member of Dalcho Lodge 160 for
60 years where he was Past Master and Secretary for 25 years; was a member of
the Omar Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite; founder of Bnai-Brith Avaraham
Lodge in Dillon; he was President and Vice-President in Ohav Shalom
Congregation; was Past President of the Latta Rotary Club where he served as the Bulletin
Chairman and had 40 years of perfect attendance. He owned and operated
Kornbluts Department Store in Latta from 1932-2009; and was a member of the Latta
Town Council for 40 years and recently served as Mayor Pro tem.
Surviving Mr. Kornblut are sons, Harold (Susan) Kornblut of Latta, Philip
(Marisa) Kornblut of Columbia; brother, Sigmond Kornblut of Dillon and sister,
Esther Louise Kornblut Richman in Los Angeles, Calif.; and three
grandchildren, Ashley Kornblut of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer Kornblut of Nashville, Tenn., and
Hayden Kornblut of Columbia.
Mr. Kornblut was predeceased by sister, Rebecca Josephine Edwards and infant
son, Michael Kornblut.
Kannadays Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family.
