Re: I am looking for information on D. W. Mellard of Adams Run in Colleton county or Jedburg In Dorchester county in South Carolina. He would be my great-grandfather and was married to Harriet R. Knight. My grandfather, David Loyless Mellard, was born (1889) in Adams Run and worked and died (1974) in Charleston. I have been told that we are related to the Mellards in Jedburg.
I knew I'd seen the names somewhere in my files. Here you go...
---1870 St. Georges Parish, Colleton Co, SC, original p. 92; p 202b, lines 22-23, PO-Georges Sta
MALLARD, David 21 M b 1849 SC farmer 100/180
Harriet 16 F b 1854 SC housekeeper
The names Mallard and Mellard were used interchangeably. I'll send you or post the census image if you'd like. Now I've got to ask you if you know Harriet's parents names. David and Harriet Mallard are living beside my known family Knights:
---1870 St. Georges Parish, Colleton Co, SC, original p. 92; p 202b, lines 24-40, PO-Georges Sta
KNIGHT, Dave(?) 30 M b 1840 SC Farmer 250/175

Ike 5 M b 1865 SC
Osvell (?) 4 M b 1866 SC

Mary 1 F b 1869 SC
Harriet is probably somehow related to David Knight above. What was your source for information on Harriet's surname?
Now another question...this is related to the 8 year old Bell listed above. Her name was Belzora Knight. In 1900 William Mallard was living with his Aunt Belzora (Knight) and Uncle Wesley Murray in Dorchester County.

William's parents may be Wesley and Lizzie Mellard. I want to know why he's living with his aunt and uncle Murray (above) and how they were related.
Well, anyway...the Knights, Murrays and Mellard/Mallards were all very close. Hope this helps and keep me in mind when you see William MALLARD b 1882 out there, please.
