Lei,

The Grecian Murray in the 1880 census was James Grecian Murray. His first wife, Barbara E. Hutto, died in 15 Apr 1868, James G. remarried to Sarah Rebecca Jones, 08 Feb 1870 in Charleston District, and who was the widow of Abednigo P. Livingston who had died between 13 Jan 1862 and about 1869. Sarah had at least 5 known children by her Livingston husband, one or whom was Virginia E. Livingston who married John DeKalb Murray, son of James G. Murray and Barbara E. Hutto.

One of the children by Sarah Jones and Abednigo P. Livingston, Amanda Livingston married John Benson Connor who was related to Barbara E. Hutto as they were both descendants of Lewis Hayne Shuler and Elizabeth Ann Dantzler. Sarah Rebecca Jones Livingston Murray died 18 Mar 1896.

In that 1880 census, there was an unnamed son age 10 months and listed as stepson. This is not correct. This was the son of John DeKalb Murray and was the Grecian Murray born 05 Sep 1879 who died 28 May 1939 and is buried at Target Cemetery. The daughter, Louisa Murray, born 16 Oct 1877, died 04 May 1964 married Fred Griffin, Sr. and they are also buried at Target Cemetery near Holly Hill, SC.

There were at least 4 Moses Murrays by 1830 census.
The Rev. Moses Murray, born 08 Sep 1771, died 03 May 1837 who married Margaret Bunch was the minister of the Target Methodist Church out of Holly Hill, SC. He had a son in 1880 named Moses W. Murray who in turn had a son Moses H. Murray, born 1829. The fourth Moses Murray was born likely before 1785 who married Ellen Singletary, daughter of Thomas Singletary and Mary Susannah Gillandeau of Charleston District. The family of Thomas Singletary was known to have lived in the St. James Goose Creek area of Old Charleston District. Ellen Singletary was born about 1785.

Fannie Belzora Utsey wife of Cromwell Murray was the daughter of William Scott Utsey and Mary Eliza Bowyer.
Mary Eliza Bowyer was the granddaughter of Daniel Strobel, Sr. and Elizabeth Aberly who are buried out of St. George, SC.

The Louisa George who married Emory Murray was the daughter of James George and Mary Martha Canaday, the daughter of Silas Canaday and Candace unknown. Silas and Candace are my ancesters.

There were at least two other children by David Murray and Rhoda(?), Mary Murray, born 09 Feb 1812, died 08 Feb 1850 and married John Lewis Moorer; and Ann D. Murray, born 01 Oct 1815, died 12 Sep 1872 and married Hamilton Sinclair Hart. Both the Moorer family and the Hart family had a daughter named Rhoda, Eliza Rhoda Moorer and Rhoda Hart.

After Mary Murray Moorer died in 1850, John Lewis Moorer remarried to Eleanor Collier, the widow of David Connor, Jr. who was related to the John Benson Connor above. After Anna D. Murray died, Hamilton Hart remarried to Eliza A. Strock, widow of a Mr. Bozard out of Orangeburg County.
Eliza Strock was the daughter of Henry D. Strock of Elloree and Elizabeth Jones likely near relative to Sarah Rebecca Jones above.

I am looking for information about the family of John W. Murray, born 1843 who married Susan Barbary Williams, daughter of John W. Williams and Sabrie Jones. John and Susan Murray had a daughter, Ida Murray who married Louis Thomas Singletary who was related to the Singletarys above.
Louis Thomas Singletary was the son of Benjamin Alexander Singletary and Mary Ann Barbara Murray, the daughter of Arnold J. Murray. This family also lived in the Old Charleston District, SC. This line of Murrays also married into Hart and Jones family of the above.

Please reply,

Robert Aldrich in SC
