Subject: [SCFAIRFI-L] Mobley's MH
Date: Tue, 04 Sep 2001 22:01:02 -0400
This info is from the "South Carolina Highway Historical Marker Guide".
The marker is on Road 18, just North of its intersection with SC 215,
1.5 miles West of the meeting house site.
Battle of Mobley's Meeting House
On May 26, 1780, one of the first victories for the Patriots after the fall
of Charleston took place 1.5 miles east on Little River. A body of Tories
gathering at a Baptist meeting house in Mobley's settlement were attacked
and dispersed by a band of Whigs under Col Wm Bratton, Maj Richard Winn and
Capt John McClure.
There is no marker indicated in this publication for Fort Wagener which was
a short distance away. It is marked on current highway maps on SC 215 near
Beaver Creek.
